There are 2 ways to copy photo files to iCloud Drive from Mac OS X Finder. Once all the files are selected, go to the top of the iCloud screen and click the 'download' icon (cloud with arrow going down). This will download all the selected files to your default download location (set it step 2). The files should not be downloaded in a zip format, they should come down exactly as they're stored in iCloud.

After this is done, simply turn on iCloud Drive. Turning on Desktop and Documents. The next step is to turn on Desktop and Documents on every Mac that you are going to use the iCloud Drive on. Go to the Apple menu and then click on System Preferences and iCloud. You need to make sure that iCloud is on before you can continue. Sign in to iCloud to access your photos, videos, documents, notes, contacts, and more. Use your Apple ID or create a new account to start using Apple services. On your Mac, drag items from iCloud drive to another folder in the Finder sidebar or on the desktop, such as Downloads, Movies, Music, and Pictures. The items are copied to your Mac and removed from iCloud Drive on all your devices set up for iCloud. If you change your mind, you can drag items back to iCloud Drive.

- Select the photo files from the Finder of OS X.
- Open a new Finder window.
- Select 'iCloud Drive' from the sidebar.

- Go to Mac Finder and select the photo file or folder which you want to copy to iCloud Drive.
- Hit Command + C to copy it ti the clipboard.
- Browse to the iCloud Drive and the location where you want to copy it.
- Hit Command + V to paste the copied photo file or folder and upload it to iCloud Drive.
